The Belarusian State University has skyrocketed to the 354th place in QS World University Rankings 2016/17 released on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. The university’s position has improved significantly in comparison with the previous edition of the ranking when BSU was in 421−430 group.
The place among World’s Top 400 universities is the best result shown by the Belarusian State University so far. Earlier the university entered the World’s Top 500 list.
On September 6, 2016 the British ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds published its ranking of the best 800 universities in the world QS World University Rankings 2016/17 (with just over 30,000 universities all over the world). Belarusian State University has significantly improved its position in the international scientific and educational space having taken the 354th place. In 2015, the country's leading university held 421-430 position (in 2014 — 491-500).
QS Ranking is based on the analysis of data on higher education and surveys of independent experts. Such factors as experts surveys (academic reputation), employers’ survey, citation index of scientific papers over the past 5 years, the ratio of teachers and students, the number of foreign students and teachers, and so on are considered.
The first places in the ranking are occupied by American universities: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Harvard University.
The positions of other leading national universities of neighboring countries: Moscow State University (108), Kazakh National Al-Farabi University (236), Tartu University (347), University of Warsaw (366), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (431-440), Vilnius University (481-490) and the University of Latvia (651-700).
It should also be noted that the Belarusian State University shows high positions in other famous world rankings steadily being among 2 percent of world's best universities.
